On 14.09.2010 our group comprising of Serina, Shirley, Rose amd myself conducted a role play of students meeting in the study hall to carry out group study. Their conversation begins with:
I just dont get it
I didnt come here to read books
I came to learn how to do it.
The despair of the students come from the way their tutor delivers their lecture by reading the power points' not deviating away from it at any piont in time and not allowing the students to raise questions.
Whilst role playing , we found ourselves adding on more comments than we had originally thought of and acting as if we were students ourselves. This little play leaves us to reflect on our teaching styles and are we adapting to our studentds needs.
Most students are simply asking: show me how to do it, I need to learn how to apply it.
I beleive with help of technology, we can equip ourselves to train our students effectively and we need to start by training ourselves first and adapt to changes quickly.
